The Moanalua Hillside Apartments project expansion consists of 4 new towers situated in the heart of Honolulu, Hawaii close to Pearl Harbor.

Each building has a floor area of nearly 100,000 ft² with 7 levels of residential above 2 levels of parking. The project totals 394,314 ft² in size and contains a total of 491 units with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Although the structures were first designed as Post-Tension Concrete, Unlimited Construction proposed using DELTABEAM® and ComSlab® Long Span Metal Deck as an alternative since this combination proved to be the fastest and most economical option.

“DELTABEAM® performed as expected with our target schedule durations met at the Moanalua Hillside Apartments (MHA).  Unlimited Construction Services, Inc. is very pleased with the result of this great alternative to more conventional solutions; installation was quicker which allowed succeeding trades to get into their scopes faster. Peikko is one of the best vendors Unlimited Construction has worked with from preconstruction through completion”, says Jay Manzano, President of Unlimited Construction, the General Contractor chosen for the project.

Kai Hawaii, Inc, the structural engineers chosen for the project, solved the challenge of lateral stability in a high seismic area by using the concrete slab as a diaphragm and transferring the horizontal forces directly to the concrete shear walls.

Douglas Emmett Inc. is the developer and Clifford Planning & Architecture was chosen to design the towers.

Peikko delivered more than four miles of DELTABEAM® composite beams between 2016 and 2018 and the expansion was completed in March of 2019.
